To keep myself busy over the first hurdle of summer, besides the odd job here and there I also decided to enter an embroidery competition via my local library. Since my usual style of embroidery is somewhat ermm... Postmodernist  and I haven't had a lot of time for personal projects lately I thought it would be a lot of fun to create something a little more traditional. The competition, called 'Postcards For Peace', entailed designing an embroidered silk postcard in the style of those made during the First World War (such as these ) for the Centenary which falls this year. I'd never come across these postcards before but the colours, designs and textures in them, not to mention what an important memento they are in terms of textiles within history were so inspiring that I couldn't wait to start. A couple of weeks ago I mentioned my pal Gemma's brownie business and something about bunting. Well Gemma asked me to make her some special bunting for her market stall and here it is: It's 2 sided, and all made from scraps of heritage type fabrics; gingham, checks, plaid / tartan, French toile, houndstooth, tweed, etc., which I had been wanting to do for a while. For an extra special fancy finish I used a velvety ribbon binding, tres classy! Unfortunately I didn't realise until I delivered the bunting that Gemma has a slight mental allergy to velvet ... oops! Nonetheless she is pleased as Punch and happy as Judy. You can catch Dark Matters at Boscombe Market on Saturdays starting this weekend (25th May)! Allo Guvner! I haven't forgotten about my little blog! I've just been very very busy hunting wabbits aaaaand catching up on school work / applying for uni. Today I finished one of my final pieces so I thought I'd share: Oh, Diana! It's not perfect but as the delicious Helena Bonham Carter once said: 'Perfection is overrated / Imperfection is underrated' She speaks the truth. I am sure that I have much more to tell, but it escapes me at the moment so here is a picture of our Bert relaxing at Bournemouth beach. He's back! Back in badge! I was talking to the Hexopus a couple of weeks ago and he said that what he'd really like most in the world would be to be all 3D and come alive to be all up in everyone's collective face. So I helped him and now he looks a bit like this: Badgers or Hexopi? And a lot like this: And then I took him over to Number 83 and the humans there said that he was 'cute' and they'd help him get out and about in the world. We didn't let on about his sinister secret plans or anything. If you want to visit the Hexopi you can see them at Number 83, Poole Road, Westbourne - I also plan to make some for online very soon!

Tomorrow I will [hopefully] have a shared stall at Pokesdown Artisan Fayre with all of my delights and my newest offerings: Stripey, stripey... stripey bag of summer A s'wheat summer handbag made from the last fabric sample I printed ; I think the style and colours are very current, kind of tie-dye, which excites me because it's fun to be on trend for once. My stall should [hopefully, if all goes to plan] be making an appearance at the very hip Sixty Million Postcards tomorrow arvo for Rumble In The Jumble, featuring the following [not very hip] new items, amongst old favourites and hopefully more if I get in gear this evening...
